Chat with your PDF chapter
Upload any class chapter as a PDF and Novi reads the whole thing using Google's Gemini AI — no chunking, no missed context. Ask follow-up questions in a natural back-and-forth conversation, and Novi answers using simple language, short paragraphs, and bullet points instead of dense textbook prose. It stays warm and encouraging, never condescending, and asks a clarifying question if your question is unclear.
Ask by voice
Tap the mic button next to the chat input and speak your question out loud. Your words are transcribed straight into the chat box using your browser's built-in speech recognition, so you can ask Novi anything hands-free — great for younger students or anyone who thinks faster than they type.
Ask with a photo
Stuck on a printed worksheet, a textbook diagram, or your own handwritten workings? Attach a photo directly in chat and Novi looks at it carefully alongside your uploaded chapter, then walks you through it — even if the question has nothing to do with the chapter you're currently studying.
Answer source citations
When an answer is drawn from a specific part of the chapter, Novi labels it — "Source: Page 3" or the section heading — right under the reply. That builds trust in the answer and makes it easy to flip back to the original material and read more.
Read-aloud replies
Tap the speaker icon on any reply to have it read aloud in a gentle, natural-sounding voice, tuned slightly slower and softer than default for comfortable listening. Great for auditory learners, reading practice, or just resting your eyes after a long day of screens.
Multilingual answers
Not every student thinks best in English. Pick a language from the "Reply in" menu above the chat and Novi explains the same chapter content in that language, keeping technical terms in English where that's how the subject is actually taught and studied.

Adaptive smart quizzes
Hit "Challenge Me" and Novi writes a fresh set of multiple-choice questions from your chapter, each with an instant-scored answer and a friendly explanation of why it's right. Under the hood, AskNovi looks at your average accuracy over your last few attempts on that chapter — scoring above 85% nudges the next quiz to be more challenging, while a rough patch below 50% dials it back to fundamentals, so you're always being tested at the right level.
Flashcards & spaced repetition
Generate a deck of front-and-back flashcards from any chapter, then review them with a simple Again / Hard / Good / Easy self-grade after each card. AskNovi uses the SM-2 spaced-repetition algorithm — the same approach behind apps like Anki — so cards you know well show up less often and tricky ones come back around sooner, making the most of your study time.
Stay Motivated
Points, streaks & badges
Every quiz you complete earns points, with a bonus for a perfect score, and studying on consecutive days builds a streak that's tracked right in the nav bar. Along the way you unlock badges for milestones like your first chapter, your first quiz, a 7-day streak, or crossing 500 points — small wins that make consistent studying feel like a game instead of a chore.
Grade-level leaderboard
From your profile, opt in to a leaderboard that ranks students by total points within the same grade. Only your name, avatar, points, and streak are ever shown — never your chats, chapters, or quiz answers — and it's entirely opt-in, so nobody appears unless they choose to.
Content & Trust
Shared chapter Library
An admin-curated Library holds ready-made chapters — organized into grade folders like Grade 9 and Grade 10 — that any student can add to their own chapters instantly, no re-uploading needed. The chapter's AI file cache is shared across every student who adds it, so it only has to be processed once.
Private & secure by design
Row Level Security policies in the database — not just app-level checks — ensure a student can only ever see their own uploaded chapters, chat history, and quiz attempts. Even the shared Library and opt-in leaderboard only ever expose the minimum needed (chapter metadata, or points and a streak), never private study activity.
Student profile & progress
Your profile page brings together your display name and avatar, current and longest streaks, total points, chapters uploaded, quizzes taken, average quiz score, your full badge shelf, and your grade level — the single place to see how far you've come.
Parent/guardian weekly digest
Add a parent or guardian's email on your profile and they'll get a friendly weekly email — streak, quizzes completed, average score, and total points — so they can stay in the loop without ever seeing private chat content or quiz answers themselves.
